For anyone who dreams of drinking long cool cocktails served by beautiful blond chicks and guys, then you should start drinking at the Nordic, a Scandinavian bar based in the heart of the rapidly growing area of 'Noho', (North of Soho'). It’s in a cosy little basement, which is kept vibrant and busy with its good looking yet relaxed and unpretentious clientele, who come to take advantage of the early evening special price deals.

We went on a Friday night, and were welcomed by a very friendly manager who produced an even more impressive cocktail list. They all looked so delicious that we fwere on a mission to try as many as possible.

We started off with Snowflakes, which were creamy concoctions of Tia Maria, Vanilla Bolls and fresh cream, topped off with chocolate flakes. Then we had the bar’s signature cocktail, Nordic Blush, which is raspberry and strawberry liquor, topped with champagne and finished with fresh fruit. It looked pretty and tasted even better.

Next, I ordered a cool and refreshing cucumber vodka with soda and for my boyfriend I requested an ‘Extreme Chill’, which is made with vodka, passion fruit and fresh crushed chilli. (This choice had nothing to do with the argument we had earlier, honestly). Before I could warn him, he had taken a large gulp (boys just don’t know how to sip and appreciate) and the tears sprung to his eyes. When his burning throat eased, he said: “Who would think a drink that looks so innocent would have such a bite?” I had to laugh.

And then it was time to eat. The food menu is limited because the emphasis here is on the drinking. However, it does have a good selection of bar snacks and small dishes, all of which you will be encouraged to accompany with a shot of schnapps. The speciality is Swedish hotdogs. Predictably, they are a sure favourite with folk who get the munchies towards the end of the night. Luckily, they are served until closing time. They look just like normal hotdogs, smothered in mustard and ketchup, but the buns have a layer of mashed potato inside. Looks strange but tastes nice.

Nordic is a perfect place to have a work night out or a birthday as its not too big or not too loud, and you are guaranteed to have lovely drinks and even lovelier staff. (Updated 05/11/2006)

Customer Reviews for Nordic Bar

I went to Nordic twice in about 6 months. The first time I went there, I was very excited to try the assortment of drinks, especially since a well-situated sign on the bar indicates a policy of making all drinks with double portions of alcohol unless specifically asked for. Unfortunately, on the particular weeknight that I went, my brother and I seemed to be the only guests. The next time I went with a group of people and hardly recognized it as the same bar. It was full with a fun crowd of good looking people and cool music. We proceeded to try pretty much every drink that they had available and set the foundation for a great night. Fun barstaff; at one point the bartender invited the guys in the group behind the bar to watch the ladies down a specially made shot. All said and done, great bar!
