Le Gothique is owned and run by it’s founder Mark Justin. Started in 1987 the restaurant is housed within South London’s most spectacular building. The high Victorian gothic masterpiece, The Royal Victoria Patriotic Building is set back from Trinity Road nestling on Wandsworth Common and can be approached via Fitzhugh Grove by car or John Archer Way by foot. Stepping through the rear courtyard entrance into a cobblestone yard the restaurant boasts that seemingly rare London option of secure and free off street parking.
The restaurant itself is accessed via the Gothic bar. The bar is open to non-diners throughout the week. Wines by the glass, light meals and a range of beers from independent brewers, Shepherd Neame, Youngs and Ballards are always available in the downstairs bar area and garden. A fine wine dining experience awaits on the mezzanine floor. The three course set menu is £24.95 with a la carte selections from £4.95 -£14.95. Lunchtime specials at £6.95 change daily.
This really is a destination venue where your intrepidation will be richly rewarded. A genuinely independent and family run concern Le Gothique is quirky and most definitely out of the ordinary. Proprietor Mark Justin, if asked, gives a tour of the cloistered garden, A.L.R.A. Great Hall and spooky cellars. Head chef, Jean-Marie Martin has presided over the kitchens for 16 of the 18 years the restaurant has been open while manageress Joanne Thorp and Head Waiter Emile have clocked up 15 years between them. Le Gothique is a restaurant where you will actually be waited upon by the same members of staff as on your last visit. (Updated 10/10/2006)
Customer Reviews for Le Gothique
“Hi guys - Le Gothique needs either a new owner, a new chef, a new idea or all three together. The espresso is not hot, the mash is not mashy but has this microwave-super-hot puree taste, the sausages are better in the sausage rolls from sainsbury's and the goat's cheese on the salad is not melting, but has been put, heartless and thoughtless, into the oven for Idunnoknow one minute or so. When you go there for lunch during the week in December, the heating has barely been switched on, and the cook is rather surprised there are people! It's like from a movie ... RATATOUILLE oui oui c'est ca! And the cook, yes ... he's french.”

“Excellent pub! The building has to be one of the best in London to drink in. Almost feels like you're in Bavaria when approaching. The pub is cosy and friendly and a real treat!”

“I have dined several times at this delightful family run establishment and attended parties hosted by friends of mine. On each occasion the ambiance, food and service have been excellent. The delightful garden is is without equal for al fresco dining. The 3 course set menu at £21.95 includes a good selection of popular French classic dishes such as Provencal fish soup, beef bourguignonne and my personal favourite dessert Tart Tatin. Each dish is individually priced but go for the 3 courses as you in effect get the dessert for free. Great atmosphere in winter or summer but worth checking if they are holding a private function before going”

“I wouldn't set foot in this place again as a result. If the calibre of service at a venue is important to you I would urge you to go elsewhere - it is quite simply dreadful at this place.”
