Brick Lane Supper Club Relaunch Party

If you’ve ever visited The Brickhouse you’re probably wondering why they’ve bothered to refurbish the joint; why fix something that’s not broken right? But, I kid you not, The Brickhouse has somehow managed to do the impossible and turn an already impressive place into a, um, place even more impressive. Ah, poetic writing at its finest.

Thursday night was the grand unveiling of this Brick Lane-based supper club’s new look, and I was lucky enough to be invited along to view the transformation myself. After being greeted with a glass of champagne (a far better greeting then the humdrum handshake), I managed to take a look around the space located within the historic Old Truman Brewery.

A definable colour scheme of white, black and red was evident. Startling white walls, a white DJ booth, white railings and crisp white table cloths, offset by the black hues of the chairs and the night coloured bar. The burgundy leather sofas wrap around the ground floors perimeter and provide comfortable seating for those at higher altitude up on the first floor, whilst vibrant artwork adorns the venues shell, adding some varied colour to the otherwise rigid colour scheme.

The ground floor’s white semicircle stage, with its grand, theatre-esque red curtains, reminds you that The Brickhouse is more than just bricks and mortar, it’s a performance venue with an ethos to entertain and enthral, which is exactly what it did on re-launch night. I moved through the venues three floors - the ground floor with room for dancing, the middle ‘L’ shaped mezzanine with well placed tables and a mirrored wall to ensure all diners get a spectacular view of the stage, and the ‘Bedroom Bar’ on the third floor which has ditched conventional tables for double beds - to watch some of the best entertainment London has to offer.

I was dumfounded by a hoola-hooping woman who could get five of the things whirring around her body in unison, tickled to hysteria by a foul-mouthed female comedian, left speechless by a Chav-inspired burlesque act, and forced to watch a daring gymnast who was climbing - and falling from - two long pieces of material hanging from the ceiling, through the cracks of my fingers.

Although I was treated to a night of entertainment, champagne, cocktails and canapés all on the house, I will be returning to spend my hard earned cash at the revamped Brickhouse on a night that is guaranteed to entertain more than a performing monkey; unless the monkey was making an appearance at The Brickhouse, then it’d be entertaining as hell.
